Venice mold inspectors are required by Florida law to
be licensed mold assessors. Unfortunately some home inspectors offer mold inspection services and are NOT
licensed to do so. A licensed Venice home inspector must also be a licensed mold assessor if: “Advertising or
representing oneself to be a Mold Assessor.” OR if they : “Taking samples for purposes of testing
for the presence of mold.” http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/division/Servicesthatrequirealicense_mold.html
DBPR Home Inspector license does NOT qualify as a Mold Assessor license; they are two separate licenses with
different requirements. http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/

Florida:
Chapter 468, Part XVI, Florida Statutes, provides for licensure and regulation
of mold assessors and remediators. The law became effective July 1, 2010, and provides that the mold related
services licensing program will be administered by Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
Florida Law requires Mold Assessors (Inspectors) and Mold Remediators to be licensed and
insured. Mold Assessors are required to have at least $1milion liability/E&O insurance for pre and post remediation
activities. Mold Remediators are required to have at least $1 million in general liability insurance.
"remember
that a negative sampling report must not be used in place of a visual survey. Factors such as barometric
pressure, inside and outside temperatures, activity levels, and humidity may dramatically reduce or increase the spore levels
within a building. Air sampling for mold provides information on what was in the air only for the moment when the sampling
occurred. It is important, therefore, that sampling not replace visual inspection."

One very important aspect of the Mold / Home
Inspector law the consumer should understand is that Mold Inspections and Home Inspections are two different professions, with separate licenses
and regulations.
Licensed Venice mold assessors (inspectors) will identify the source
of the mold problem, the extent of the mold problem and write recommendations for remediation based on nationally accepted
industry standards. A Certified Indoor Environmentalist is qualified to write the mold cleanup procedures
so you can get proposals from licensed mold Remediators. Clearance inspections after the mold cleanup must be performed
by independent licensed assessors for your protection.
